      From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, July 9, 2001-

      Harold Edward Schwarz, 96, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, July 8, 2001 at Countryside Home in Madison, Nebraska. Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church rural Columbus on Friday, July 13, 2001 at 10:00 AM with Rev. John E. Nelson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus.

      Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2001 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM and at Christ Lutheran Church on Friday, July 13, 2001 from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM.

      Harold was born September 9, 1904 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Fred and Lena (Friedrich) Schwarz. He attended rural district grade school and Trinity Lutheran parochial school in Madison, Nebraska. After school, Harold worked on the family farm. He married Lorna Loseke on June 4, 1938 in Parker, South Dakota. Together they farmed in the Humphrey area from 1938 to 1946. They then purchased a farm north of Columbus, Nebraska where they raised grain and livestock. They farmed there until 1968 when they moved to Columbus. He worked at Wilke Landscape Center in Columbus from 1970 to 1981. He was a member of various farm coop's.

      Harold was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in rural Platte County where he was a past member of the Walther League, an usher and a trustee. Harold was one of three that planted the blue spruce trees along the property line on the north side of the church and the teachers home. He enjoyed playing cards, manicuring his lawn, reading, traveling, listening to music and doing craft work.
