Donald C. Martensen, 71 of Monroe, Nebraska, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 31, 10:30 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center with Rev. John Hellwege officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 at the church with a 10:15 A.M. family prayer service. Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Donald Martensen was born November 25, 1933 in rural Platte County, Nebraska to Chris and Mabel (Gehring) Martensen. Don was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Prairie. He was confirmed on March 30, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church (14 miles north). Don attended rural Platte County schools. After school, Don went into farming with his father. He married Lois Leffers on July 31, 1960 at St. John's Lutheran Church. He served on the Platte Center Co-op for 9 years, was on the committee for the location of Lakeview High School, and was on the 4-H council board. Don was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center where he served as church treasurer, financial secretary, and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family, playing on the dart ball league at the church, and taking care of his cattle.
