      From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, December 11, 2005-

      COLUMBUS - Carl A. Johannes, 80, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

      Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Burial is at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in rural Columbus, with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post No. 84 Honor Guard.

      Visitation will be today from 3-7 p.m. at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus, and on Monday from 9-10 a.m., with a 9:45 a.m. family prayer service, at the church.

      Mr. Johannes was born Feb. 23, 1925, in rural Platte County, to Henry and Alma (Twistmeyer) Johannes. He was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Carl attended schools at Christ Lutheran, St. John's Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran. He worked on several farms before joining the United States Army on Dec. 28, 1948. Carl was medically discharged on March 24, 1949.

      He married Cordula (Corky) Loseke on June 26, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.

      Carl worked for Bob Aerni, Behlen Manufacturing and Henke Machine Shop for several years, all while working the on the Loseke family farm. For several years, Carl and Corky ran the Johannes Feather Farm. Carl enjoyed doing small farm repair work and had his own shop on the farm.

      He was a member of the church, where he was an usher. He enjoyed playing cards and stopping for coffee to visit with his friends.

      Survivors include his wife, Cordula "Corky" Johannes of Columbus; one son, Stanley (Karen) Johannes of Columbus; two daughters, Sandy (Bob) Zimmerman of Cookeville, Tenn., and Sharon (Joe) Krumland of Columbus; nine grandchildren, Adam Muhle, Travis Johannes, Tyler Johannes, Rob Zimmerman, Kenyon Zimmerman, Nathan Zimmerman, Tammy Mayoral, Troy Krumland, and Toni Krumland; one great-grandson, Cole Johannes; and one sister, Helen Bohner of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.

      Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alma Johannes; one infant son; three brothers, Emil Johannes, Gustav Johannes, and one infant brother.
