      From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, January 12, 2003-

      COLUMBUS - Clarence Wilken, 90, of Lincoln, formerly of Columbus, died
      Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Homestead Healthcare in Lincoln.

      Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday with a family prayer service at
      10:45 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, with the Rev. John E.
      Nelson Jr. officiating. A private family burial will be held at the Columbus
      Cemetery.

      There will be no visitation.

      Gass Haney Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.

      Mr. Wilken was born May 27, 1912, in Platte County, a son of August L. and
      Emma W. (Krumland) Wilken. He attended Christ Lutheran School.

      In March of 1940, he was married to Shirley Rector in Fremont. He was
      married to Betty Oxley in Lincoln in February 1977. He farmed in Platte
      County before going to work for Nielsen Chevrolet. He owned the Studebaker
      dealership in Columbus for many years before going to work for the
      Prudential Life Insurance Co., where he put in 45 years of service, retiring
      in 2000.

      He was active in the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber.
      He was a former member of the Columbus City Council and a member of the
      Evening Lions Club. In Lincoln, he was a member of the Executive Club and
      First Lutheran Church.

      Survivors include his wife; one daughter: Jane (Fred) Monnich of Lincoln;
      one son: Jack Wilken of Lincoln; two stepsons: Robert (Debbie) Brassette of
      Lincoln and William Brassette of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sisters: Luella
      (Edward) Marolf and Phyllis Peterson, all of Columbus; one brother: Wilbert
      (Ruby) Wilken of Columbus; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
      and two stepgrandchildren.

      Preceding him in death were his first wife; and two brothers: Lorenz and
      Milton Wilken.
