WILLIAM KAELBE(sic), 84, DIES; RITES TUESDAY
William Kaelber, 84, a resident of Fremont for the past 15 years, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday at an Omaha hospital after being confined there by illness for three weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at the Fred Bader funeral home, with Rev. C.A. Myers of St. James Episcopal Church officiating. The Elks service will be held.
Mr. Kaelber was born Dec. 12, 1857, at 11th and Harney streets, in Omaha, where he lived his first two years. The family then moved to Fort Kearney, where they lived until Indians bothered them so much that they moved to Leavenworth, Kan.
They resided at Leavenworth until 1873, when they moved to Millard. Mr. Kaelber married there to Anna Ehlers in 1887. She died in 1900.
He spent many years of his early life in the Pacific northwest. He worked for a construction firm that helped build the Union Pacific railroad through Idaho, and he also had a general merchandise store in Millard for several years.
After leaving Millard he went to work at the Standard Sugar Beet factory of New York, at Leavitt, near Ames, where he worked for six years. After leaving the sugar beet factory, he worked for the Fremont Mills for several years and then moved to Hillros, Colo., where he farmed for several years.
He then moved to Fremont, where he has lived for 15 years. He made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Paul Weihe, 1845 North Nye avenue.
Mr. Kaelber was a member of the Elk's Lodge and the Modern Woodmen.
Survivors include five sons, Grover Kaelber, of Salt Lake City, Utah, William of Vallejo, Calif., Jake of Merriman, Chris of Lubbock, Tex., and Herman of Dutch Harbor, Alaska; three daughters, Mrs. George Moore, Mrs. Clara Luke, and Mrs. Paul F. Weihe all of Fremont; and one step daughter, Mrs. John Hawkins of Wheatridge, Colo.
