      From THE PAST AND THE PRESENT, PLATTE COUNTY, NEBRASKA, Volume II-

      Not long after emigrating to the United States the Fred joined the Union army at Litchfield, Illinois, and served for three years in the Civil war. He was wounded in the foot but otherwise escaped injury. In 1872 he came to Platte county, Nebraska, and took up land on his soldier's warrant, locating on section 26, Grand Prairie township. He was a successful farmer and his many sterling qualities gained him the confidence and warm regard of those who were brought in contact with him.[ColfaxDeutschlandPlatte.FBK.FTW]
