From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, September 5, 2003-
SCHUYLER - Robert L. Mastny, 81, of Schuyler, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at the Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Schuyler with the Rev. Thomas Hallowell officiating. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 and The American Legion McLeod Post 47 Honor Guards.
Visitation will be noon-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel in Schuyler and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mr. Mastny was born Sept. 21, 1921, to Anton and Milada (Meyer) Mastny in Colfax County. He attended Colfax County rural School District 1.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 and was a prisoner of war for seven months.
He married Bertha Sayers on July 24, 1948.
He worked for Kent Feeds and Ehernberger Farms after he retired from farming. He loved to hunt and fish.
He was a member of the Schuyler Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Terry (Teresa) Mastny of Shreveport, La., and Vernon (Debra) Mastny of West Point, Miss.; a daughter, Betty Reznicek of North Beach, Md.; a brother, Milo (Libby) Mastny of Schuyler; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Mastny; a sister, Irene Bohaty and a brother, Edward Mastny.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
