COLUMBUS - Harold L. Larsen, 83, of Columbus, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Burial is at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by Hartman Post 84, American Legion.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and continues Thursday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with the family prayer service at 10:15 a.m.
Mr. Larsen was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Albion to Louis and Geannie (Moore) Larsen. He attended school in Madison. During the 1930s, he worked for the Civil Conservation Corps. He moved to Idaho and worked as a farm hand for a number of years.
On Nov. 12, 1939, he married Alwine Korte in Columbus.
On May 11, 1944, he was drafted into the Marine Corps, serving during World War II. He was wounded in action on May 10, 1945, at Okinawa. On Jan. 26, 1946, he was honorably discharged.
He then moved his family back to Columbus where he worked for Alexand's Furniture & Carpet Store. In the mid 1960s, he worked on his own as a carpet and tile installer. He enjoyed traveling.
He was a member of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Claudia (Fred) Addison of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Connie (Bud) Sweet of Lincoln; two sons, Harold "Butch" (Dorothy) Larsen of Columbus and Lonnie (Lynette) Larsen of Kearney; two sisters, Margery (Louis) Durham of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Merna Hatfield of Buhl, Idaho; three brothers, Arvid Larsen of Norfolk, Carol (Fawn) Larsen of Chadron and Elliot (Dorothy) Larsen of Buhl, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Larry Larsen; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn (Ron) Novicki; one granddaughter; five brothers; and three sisters.
Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.
