COLUMBUS -- Vernon "Joe" W. Johannes, 44, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Creston, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, in Sioux City.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Columbus with the Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Creston.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City. A prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Columbus.
Mr. Johannes was born Nov. 20, 1956, at Columbus to Melvin and Dolores (Engelbart) Johannes. He graduated from Leigh High School in 1975.
He married Bonnie Ritter on April 24, 1976, in Creston. The couple moved to Sioux City 19 years ago. He was the maintenance man at the Holiday Village Mobile Home Park. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. His enjoyed woodworking and raising flowers.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Shane Johannes of Ames, Iowa; his mother, Dolores (Norbert) Deitloff of Norfolk; mother-in-law, Donna Ritter of Creston; three sisters, Nancy (Merlin) Siefken of West Des Moines, Iowa, Lorrie (Paul) Cada of Schuyler and Genise (Jay) Spittler of Norfolk; and one brother, Marlin (Judy) Johannes of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his father; two sons, Jeffrey and Christopher Johannes; and his father-in-law, Robert Ritter.
Nelson Berger Northside Funeral Service in Sioux City is in charge of arrangements.
