Arlo E. Bakenhus, 70, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
The funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. with Revs. Michael Klatt and Ernest Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery, rural Columbus with military honors by the American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 3:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and at Peace Lutheran Church on Thursday, from 9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. with a family prayer service at 9:45 A.M. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Arlo E. Bakenhus was born July 30, 1933 in Leigh, Nebraska to William and Freida (Korte) Bakenhus. Arlo attended school in Leigh and graduated from Kramer High School in 1951. On April 29, 1953 Arlo entered the U.S. Marine Corp. and served in the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged on April 28, 1955.
On September 18, 1955 Arlo married Mary Ann Lange at the Christ Lutheran Church in Rural Columbus. Arlo started the Bakenhus Construction Company. He owned and managed the company until his retirement in 1995. Arlo was a past president of the Columbus Home Builders Association, a member of the VFW, and a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodcarving and spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends.

Son - Bill (Jodi) Bakenhus of Pomona, KS

Sister - Alice Lake of Leigh, NE
Sister - Eunice (Bob) Postma of Columbus, NE
