Mohnsen, 89 of Columbus, Nebraska (formerly of Leigh, Nebraska) died Friday, May 21, 2004 at the Columbus Community Hospital. The funeral service will be Monday, May 24, 2:00 P.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, rural Leigh. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Monday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 1:45 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the Columbus Community Hospice. Irene E. Mohnsen was born May 21, 1915 in Leigh, Nebraska to John and Ida (Loseke) Hespe. She attended school in rural Leigh. On June 24, 1941, Irene and Gustave R. Mohnsen were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh. Irene spent most of her life on a farm in the Leigh area. She moved to Columbus in 1969 and was employed at D & L and Jackson Cleaners until her retirement. She was an avid gardener. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was part of the Naomi Circle.
