SCRIBNER -- Margaret L. Backhus, 91, of Scribner died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner with the Rev. Donald Brunner officiating. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. Monday at Spear-Johnson Funeral Home in Scribner. Burial is at Scribner Cemetery.
Ms. Backhus was born Oct. 1, 1909, in Platte County to John and Anna (Wurdemann) Backhus. She attended rural Platte County School and St. John's Parochial School in Platte County. She later attended Business School in Grand Island and attended Midland College in Fremont.
She worked as a telephone operator and as the Scribner city clerk for 20 years, retiring on Dec. 6, 1982.
She was a member of the church. She moved to Scribner from Columbus in 1935. Since July 1992, she has lived at Good Samaritan Center.
Survivors include one brother, Walter (Norma) Backhus of Scribner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Viola Mauch and Ruth Rink; and two brothers-in-law, Oscar Mauch and Roland Pink.
Memorials may be directed to the church or the Good Samaritan Center.
