From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, May 27, 2007-
SCHUYLER - Funeral services for 88 year old Melvin F. Grotelueschen of Schuyler will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church rural Schuyler (949 Road 7). Visitation will be held on Monday at the Svoboda Funeral Home South Chapel in Schuyler from noon-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery.
Melvin was born Feb. 24, 1919, rural Richland to Frank and Agnes (Vrba) Grotelueschen. He served in the Army during WW II and was a Bronze Star recipient. He was a life long farmer and served on the Colfax County Rural Fire Board for many years. He was involved in many aspects of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. On September 2, 1948, he married Loretta DeBower at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Melvin died May 26, 2007 at Golden Living Center Columbus.
Grateful for having shared Melvin's life are his seven children, Dale (Elizabeth) of Gering; Jane (Mrs. Robert) Runnels of Muskego, Wis.; Keith (Carla) of Clinton, Iowa; Doris (Mrs. Mark) Puls of Alpena, Mich.; Carl (Pam) of Schuyler; Lewis of Schuyler; and Karen (Mrs. Jeff) Ortman of Plymouth, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Loretta (June 26, 2006); and sister, Cecelia Mayhew.
