MADISON -- Glen J. Arlt, 75, of Madison, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Leonard's Catholic Church in Madison. Burial will be at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Lindsay American Legion Post 261.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3-8 p.m. at St. Leonard's Catholic Church with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
Glen was born on Jan. 24, 1932, in Humphrey, the son of Leander Pat and Evelyn (Diederich) Arlt. He was raised on the family farm and attended school at Lindsay Holy Family grade school.
Glen entered the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in Korea. He received his honorable discharge in 1954.
On Oct. 11, 1955, he married Mary Jane Unger at St. Leonards Catholic Church in Madison. The couple made their home in St. Bernard. Glen farmed in the Lindsay and St. Bernard area and later purchased the bar in St. Bernard. He owned and operated Arlts Tavern for 41 years until he and his wife moved to Madison in 2000.
Glen was a member of the American Legion Post #261 in Lindsay and the VFW Post #3704 in Columbus.
He loved to play cards, especially Euchre. He enjoyed gardening when he had time and was always eager to talk about farming, cards and the current events of the day.
Glen is survived by his wife of 52 years; their children, Gary of Lindsay and Lisa of Madison; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Brett; two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Damien; four brothers and one sister, Kenneth and Bernice Arlt of Columbus, Darrell and Darlene Arlt of Columbus, Mariette and Delbert Christensen of Crete, Robert and Judy Arlt of Plainview and James and Melanie Arlt of Lindsay.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
