      From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, March 21, 2003-

      COLUMBUS - John E. L. Dicke, 90, of Creston died Wednesday, March 19, 2003,
      at Morys Haven in Columbus.

      Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Leigh with
      the Rev. Dr. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating. Burial will be at the church
      cemetery.

      Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and
      9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer
      service.

      Mr. Dicke was born Jan. 4, 1913, in rural Columbus to Louis D. and Helena
      (Oltmann) Dicke. He attended District 2 School in Platte County.

      He married Eileen Hillen on Oct. 10, 1940, in Hooper. He was a farmer all of
      his life.

      He was a member of the church. He served on the church council and School
      District 46 school board member. He enjoyed farming, first with horses
      before changing to a long line of John Deere tractors. He also enjoyed
      poultry and sheep raising and cutting firewood.

      Survivors include his wife; three sons, Allen Dicke, Dale (Judy) Dicke and
      Paul (Diane) Dicke, all of Creston; one daughter, Ruth (Robert) Brichacek of
      Columbus; two brothers, Leonard (Katherine) Dicke of Columbus and David
      (Margaret) Dicke of Madison; two sisters, Elva Dicke and Mabel (William)
      Durkop, all of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Verna Dicke of Columbus; a
      brother-in-law, Martin Reinke of Columbus; and nine grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond Dicke; a brother,
      Ernst Dicke; a sister, Edna Dicke; and a grandson, Nathan Dicke.
