From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, January 21, 2003-
LAGRANGE, Ky. - Elaine Houfek, 88, of Lagrange, Ky., formerly of Clarkson,
died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Richwood Nursing Home in Lagrange.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson
with the Rev. Dr. Earl F. Underwood Jr. officiating. Burial will be at
Clarkson National Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Clarkson and
9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Houfek was born on Nov. 7, 1914, on the Dasenbrock family farm in
Colfax County to Henry and Anna (Jenny) Dasenbrock. She attended rural
Colfax County grade school and graduated from Leigh High School.
She married Lambert Charles Houfek on May 27, 1936 in Clarkson.
She grew up a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Leigh where she was
the organist. They farmed in Colfax County until 1941 when they moved to Los
Angeles. After WW II, they returned to Leigh. In 1947, they moved to Clarkson
and purchased Clarkson Oil Co. Her husband died on Jan. 7, 1972.
She made her home in Clarkson until moving to Kentucky in December of 2001
to be near family. She spent many hours crocheting for family and friends.
She was a member of New Zion Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one son, Dean Charles (Joan) Houfek of Lagrange; one
daughter, Judith Louise (Charles) Blackbird of Boise, Idaho; six
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Herbert Dasenbrock,
Edmund Dasenbrock, Maurice Dasenbrock and Elmer Dasenbrock; and two sisters,
Irma Luchsinger and Estella Gee.
