From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, April 9, 2003-
Edgar Cattau, 80, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the
Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, April 12, 2003, 10:30 A.M. at
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Revs. Roland A. Jank, Richard
Bringewatt and Andrew Alberts officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn
Memorial Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by the American Legion
Hartman Post #84. Visitation is on Friday, April 11 from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at
Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday, April 12 from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at
the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.
Edgar Cattau was born June 24, 1922 in rural Platte County, Nebraska to
Herman and Lottie (Held) Cattau. He was baptized, confirmed and attended
school at Christ Lutheran. Edgar was drafted into the US Army on October 7,
1942. He was in the first group of 20 year olds that were drafted from
Platte County. He was in field artillery. He became disabled and was
honorably discharged on November 18.
Edgar and Vernetta Grotelueschen were united in marriage on August 22, 1943
at Christ Lutheran Church. Edgar worked at Behlen Manufacturing as a
construction foreman for a number of years. He later went into carpentry
work until he became permanently disabled in 1980. He enjoyed playing cards
and was considered by many as a professional sheephead and euchre player. He
was a member of the church and the American Legion, and a life member of the
Disabled American Veterans.
