LEIGH - Pearl A. Ehlers, 100, of Leigh, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leigh, with the Rev. Theresa Meyer officiating. Burial is at Leigh Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:30-5 p.m. today and 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, all at the church. Leigh Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ehlers was born Nov. 5, 1904, to Henry and Elizabeth (Wiebold) Callies near Kearney. Her family moved to a farm west of Leigh the following year. She attended Leigh Public School District 39 and graduated from Leigh High School in 1922. She attended Wayne State College for two years. She taught for five years near Howells, in Nickerson, southwest of Leigh and in Creston.
She married John Ehlers Feb. 21, 1928, in Madison. They lived near Madison and then moved to rural Leigh.
She was a member of the church. She enjoyed baking, embroidery, crocheting, garden work and flowers.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen Ehlers of Leigh; one sister, Lola (Ewald) Hake of Leigh; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Callies of Leigh.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oct. 31, 1993; four brothers, Benjamin, Heinie, Daniel and Edwin Callies; and three sisters, Lydia Parr, Elsie Jull and Helen Dasenbrock.
