      From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, February 21, 2008-

      CRESTON -- Emil Ladean Brauner, 71, of rural Creston, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Bryan LGH East, Lincoln.

      The funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Leigh with the Rev. Tim White officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

      Visitation will be today from 4-8 p.m. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home, 2109 14th Street in Columbus and continues Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m.

      Emil Ladean Brauner was born Sept. 16, 1936, in Columbus, to Emil and Louisa (Dasenbrock) Brauner. He was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and graduated from Creston High School in 1954. He grew up and lived most of his working life on the family farm place in the house that was hand built by his father and great uncle in Sherman Township. Following the loss of the farm during the great depression, Ladean worked until he was able to regain ownership, proudly farming the land and raising hogs and cattle until his retirement. Ladean served in the Air National Guard in his youth and was a member of the AmVets. For many years, Ladean was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and later a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. He was a long-time member of the Norfolk Chapter of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Ladean enjoyed playing cards and attending antique tractor and threshing shows.

      Ladean is survived by his son, Gregory Ladean Brauner of Duncan; daughter, Stephanie Louise (Chip) Chandler of Boerne, Texas; son, Jason Emil Brauner of Lincoln; daughter, Valerie Jean Brauner of Boerne, Texas; grandsons, Jacob Douglas Brauner of Boerne, Texas, Wyatt Henderson, and Brady Calhoun Chandler of Boerne, Texas; sisters, Elva Hawes of Omaha and Lois Rayman of Longmont, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

      Ladean was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Louisa Brauner; and sister, Mildred Daniels.
