      Avis L. Koch, 81 of Creston, Nebraska died Sunday, August 5, 2001 at Countryside Home in Madison, NE.

      Services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leigh, NE on Wednesday, August 08, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Scott Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Creston. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 7, 2001 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Leigh, NE on Wednesday, August 8, 2001 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.

      Avis L. Koch was born January 10, 1920 in Rural Leigh, Nebraska to Anton J. and Clara M. (Barrett) Pimpara. She graduated from Leigh High School and attended Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska where she received her teaching certificate. Avis married Harvey D. Koch on June 9, 1938 in Creston, Nebraska.

      She was member of the Presbyterian Church serving as an elder, Sunday school superintendent and teacher, and a member of the Ladies Guild. After the Presbyterian church closed, she became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid of the ELCA and given an honorary membership. She was a member of the Creston American Legion Auxiliary Pieper Unit 306 and held offices of president, vice-president and was the historian for many years.

      Avis taught school at District 45 in Platte County and was the Creston correspondent for the Humphrey Democrat for many years. Avis' hobbies included gardening, composing poetry, and writing history. Her composition of the History of Creston, NE, was selected for placement in the National Archives in Washington D.C.
