HENRY LOSEKE, SR., DEAD- At 2 o'clock this afternoon occurred the death of Henry Loseke, sr., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. H. Leavy, at the age of 85 years. He had been in fairly good health until two weeks ago when complications from his advanced years rendered him bedfast. Mr. Loseke was numbered among the oldest of the pioneers of Platte county, coming here in 1868, shortly after the town of Columbus was founded. From the soil, as a farmer and stock-raiser, he wrung a comfortable fortune, and has always been a leader in the agricultural interests in the county. Mr. Loseke was born in Oldenburg, Germany, October 11, 1837. He came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Loseke, and three other children to America in 1858, the family settling on the creek that now bears the Loseke name. In 1864, he was married to Mrs. Kumpf, who died in September, 1909, and was buried in Columbus cemetery, where Mr. Loseke's remains will be interred beside those of his wife. After her death, Mr. Loseke made his home with his daughter, Mrs. L. H. Leavy. Besides this daughter, six other children survive him- Mrs. Wm. Reese, of Kearney, who arrived this afternoon; Henry Loseke, jr., of this city; Louis Loseke, on Route 1 out of Columbus; August Loseke, living north of Columbus, and Mrs. Wm. Bucher of Columbus, and Mrs. Henry Grotelueschen, of Columbus, the last two named being step-daughters. One brother, Gerhard Loseke, sr., also survives him. Funeral arrangements have not yet been perfected. Mr. Loseke, throughout his life was a devout member of the Lutheran church, and was one of founders of the Loseke Creek church, affiliating with the Columbus congregation when he moved into the city. Coming as he did in the early days of Platte county history, he had witnessed its progress from a barren prairie to a rich farming community, in the development of which he played no small part.
